I cannot put into words how I felt when my niece called me to tell me about my brother Navarre’s passing. Even now, it is difficult for me to hold back my emotions.

The last time I saw him, just a few days before he passed, I did not feel comfortable leaving to return home to Jacksonville.

Sometimes we are faced with sadness and wonder, “Is God near?” Yes, He is. He is always working behind the scenes. His eyes are watching, His hands are moving, and His grace is always available.

That day, I spent almost five hours at Navarre’s bedside. When he finally opened his eyes and called my name three times, those were the last words he spoke to me. A few days later, he went home to be with the Lord.

I am so thankful to God. Even in difficult situations, when the enemy tries to bring fear and sorrow, God’s grace and providence prevail.

I remember years ago in Haiti when Navarre and I lived together with our two sisters, Paulette and Jacqueline, along with our good friend Gustave. We shared so many good times together. Navarre worked at a goods store selling cloth, while I traveled with our father, Phared — whom many called Frank — driving his big red Dodge truck from city to city selling merchandise. Those truly were the good old days. I can still picture Navarre riding his red motorcycle back and forth to work.

There is so much more I could say about my brother and friend, Navarre.

Until we meet again in glory, my brother, rest in peace.

My sincere condolences to the family on the loss of Uncle Navarre. I thank God that my dad was blessed with the opportunity to visit him two weeks ago. In moments like these, we lean on the promises of God, knowing that “The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.” Psalm 34:18.
May God wrap His loving arms around the family, strengthen their hearts, and give them peace that surpasses all understanding as they navigate life without Uncle Navarre. Praying that the Lord will comfort every heart and that Uncle Navarre’s memory will forever remain a blessing. 🙏❤️

Antonette Council.
