Philbert Roy Bloomfield

August 08, 1957~December 01, 2020

Philbert Roy Bloomfield affectionately known as Phil to many and Papa to his grandchildren. He was a son, a brother, a loving husband, a devoted father, an uncle, a grandfather, a friend. Many will describe him as having a kind soul, loving, calm, generous, good natured and naturally a happy person, an incredible good guy.  Phil was born on August 8, 1957 to Fredrick and Claudette Bloomfield in Kingston Jamaican one of six children. He attended Calabar High School in Jamaica but migrated to the USA to complete his high school at Carol City High School. Phil went on to Broward College where he earned an associate degree in Clinical Engineering. His 30 year career showed his love for his work in clinical engineering. Phil held several positions at various organizations until he finally settled to work for ABM as an engineer which allowed him to grandfather into the Memorial Hospital family troubleshooting and repairing the many complicated equipment in the Oncology department. He has an uncanny ability to reach people in a profound and positive way and was loved by everyone he came into contact with. He never had an unkind word to say about anyone and he is always looking at the glass half full. Phil was very good with his hands and if you’ve been to his home you would see this in his garden, and the many changes and home improvement projects he has completed over the years. Phil loved to travel which he did at least three times each year with his wife Millicent also know as Mitzy. He admired the different cultures of the various place they would go to during his travel and was always intrigued by architectural artifacts of the different nations. His enquiring mind would want to know how it came about and would tell tales when he came home from the knowledge gained. Phil loved his family and this can be seen through his constant support when they need it.

Phil went home to be with the Lord on December 1, 2020. He is survived by his loving wife Mitzy, his four children Alexander affectionately called Alex , Marissa, Dennis, and Leon, grandchildren Jordan and Mailee, father Fred, sister Sharon, brother Chet, Mother-in-law, Sister-in-laws, Brothers-in-laws, and numerous nieces and nephews. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, co-workers, and all who knew him.

From the first time I met Phil 4 yrs. ago, we laughed, joked, and recognized his love of a free meal (his words) as we both agreed. Every time we saw one another it felt as if it were a family get together, which speaks of his gentle spirit and deep loving soul. Knowing him has been a blessing, and remembering him is an honor. The night sky shines a lot brighter with this star, may your spirit fly high to all the undiscovered lands your heart desired to admire.

With love and remembrance.

I’m still in disbelief. Phil was such a positive, kind, outgoing, fun loving , and thoughtful person. Took great pride in his work. You know the kind of person he was by the amount of people mourning and constantly missing his presence. I pray that God will rest his sweet shalom on Mitzy and the rest of his family and friends during this difficult time.

For so many years I talked with you while taking your parts orders over the phone. We cracked jokes and compared our Caribbean upbringing. When I heard about your passing I cried. You deserved more time. Your excitement for life and watching your grandkids grow was what kept you going. I send loads of blessings to your family. I know the loss leaves a empty space in their hearts. You’ll be missed my friend!

Such a sad time for all who knew and loved Phil. I believe in my heart that grief is for those left behind. I rejoice that Phil has earned his place in heaven and is amongst the angels. I can only imagine his joy to be reunited with his wonderful mother and sister.

I am Phils brother in law and have been in his family for decades. That has tremendous meaning as I felt a member of the family from the first day that we met. Phils mother Claudette was one of the finest souls that I have ever been blessed to know, and her strength was passed throughout her entire family.

Chet, please forgive your mother for favoring me with her curry goat. Lord that woman could cook! I love you all and pray strength for you.

Phil, thank you for my nephew Alex and niece Marissa. You were a great father and friend. I love you brother.

My sincere condolences to all the family and friends. Losing Phil has been tough. Working with Phil has been a pleasure and I am honored to have learned so much from him. Almost every Monday at 6:30am I would have some type of issue with the machines at work. Him knowing that Monday’s were my warm up days, he’d tell me on Friday don’t call him Monday morning lol. So Monday would come and I texted him instead lol and he always texted back saying to call him. Phil was always giving of his time and never once complained. He is irreplaceable and has left a lasting imprint on all of our hearts.
To Mitzy, I pray that God brings you and your family peace. Know that you will always have a family in all of Phil’s coworkers. We love you.

Sleep in peace Phil.

It took me a while to write this because I didn’t want to believe that that he is not around anymore to offer advice and direction, He is dearly. My deepest condolences go to his family and to everyone whose life he has touched. Phil’s presence meant everything was going to be alright. Until we meet again Phil. Walk Good.
