Rene Venereo Castro

December 15, 1940~July 13, 2020

Rene was born in 1940 in Guantamo, Cuba and came to South Florida when he was about 27 years old in 1967. He risked his life coming to the United States to have a better life for his family in Cuba. He used a raft to get to South Florida that eventually fell apart leaving him stranded at the halfway point. When that happened, he swam approximately 30 miles for three days with his friend Hector until he was picked up by a boat. Eventually he arrived in Florida where he was able to establish himself and meet my Grandmother, Mary a few years later.

Rene and Mary met in Tony’s Restaurant in Miami, Florida and a year later got married March 21st,1975. They had two daughters Maritza and Elizabeth. They liked to go fishing, go to Miami Aquarium, Metro zoo and play arcade games, ride bumper carts, and play golf at Castle Park. They lived in Miami for several years while he worked in construction then in 2003 he had heart surgery and had to transition his career and started working at a pizza shop called Little Ceasers. He refused to stay home and took on that job as more of a hobby to stay intact and social.

He had an altruistic personality and sacrificed a lot for his family and always made sure that everyone felt comfortable and love. He had a gift to inspire others. He supported his family through and through and established a relationship with Christ towards the last two months of his life. He would listen to the audio bible often and do bible studies with the family. One of the last verses he read in bible study was John 14 1-25. “Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me.

In My Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.  And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also.

A Public Visitation will take place on Monday, July 20, 2020 starting at 2:00 PM with a Prayer Service at 3:00 PM at 6400 Hollywoood Boulevard, Hollywood Florida 33024.
