January 13, 1952~May 22, 2026

Richard Allan Simpson II, born January 13, 1952, of Cooper City, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 22, 2026, at the age of 74, surrounded by his loving wife and daughter, in comfort and peace.

Born and raised in North Miami, he attended Miami Norland High School before later moving to Southwest Ranches. In 1976, he settled into his Cooper City home where he would spend the rest of his life. He began his career as a meat cutter at just 20 years old, first as an apprentice and shortly afterward earning the title of journeyman. He dedicated over 30 years of hard work to Pantry Pride, where he took great pride in his skill.

Rick was known as a storyteller who loved entertaining those around him with his memories and humor. He had an incredible memory and always seemed to have a story for every situation and every lesson in life. He could make people laugh without trying, especially when sharing one of his many stories, some of which may have grown just a little more colorful with time. Those who loved him will always remember the joy, laughter, and smiles he brought to every conversation.

One of his favorite stories began in the fifth grade, when he wrote a school report about the state of Maine and declared that one day he would marry a girl from Maine. Years later, that childhood dream came true when he met the love of his life, Ann Couture. After hearing about Ann from a neighbor, he introduced himself when he saw her outside her home, striking up a conversation that would change both of their lives. Not long after, their dogs Sam and The Little B became inseparable friends, with The Little B finding every opportunity to run away to Ann’s house. What began with a simple conversation became a love story that would last a lifetime. Together, they shared 31 wonderful years, including 22 years of marriage, filling those years with countless memories, adventures, laughter, and a deep love for one another. A love story he believed in long before he ever knew her name.

He was an amazing father to both Heather and Ricky. He gave them a lifetime of laughter, stories, guidance, and unconditional love, always teaching lessons through his stories and creating memories they would carry forever. Some of their favorite memories were the adventures he took them on through the years, crabbing, fishing, trips to Sanibel Island, jet ski and boat rides, and summers spent at Dolly Copp Campground in New Hampshire. Those moments became some of the greatest memories of their childhood and reflected the joy he found in sharing life with his family. After losing his son Ricky last year, a part of his heart was never the same. It brings peace to those who loved them to imagine father and son reunited once again.

He was also a loving and devoted grandfather who adored his grandchildren and great-granddaughter. Whether he was making them laugh, sharing stories, or simply spending time with them, he treasured every moment and created memories they will carry with them forever.

Rick found joy in life’s simple adventures and the outdoors he loved so much. He enjoyed traveling, bike riding, canoeing, fishing, and spending time camping at Jonathan Dickinson State Park and taking bike rides through Shark Valley. One of his happiest places was the dog beach, where he loved taking his beloved dog, Moofie. In his final months, he found peace sitting in his backyard, watching the planes pass overhead, a quiet moment he came to truly enjoy.

He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.

He was preceded in death by his son, Richard Allan Simpson III; his mother, Mildred Josephine Maclaren; his father, Richard Allan Simpson, and stepmother, Dorthy Faye Simpson; and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Joseph and Elnora Couture.

He is survived by his loving wife, Ann Couture Simpson; his daughter, Heather Jean Peppers, and son-in-law, Jack Peppers II; his grandchildren, Justin Fox and Maya, Lillianna Jean Peppers, and Jack Peppers III; and his great-granddaughter, Aleana Fox.

He is also survived by his sister, Dana Pollock, and her husband, Joe Pollock, and family; his brother, Sam Katzen, and his wife, Michele Katzen, and family; and his brother-in-law, Michael Couture, his wife, Linda Couture, and family.

Among those waiting to welcome him home were his cherished pets: The Little B, Sam, KC, Bella, and Edward.

Until we meet again, I’ll always miss you. Give Ricky a big hug for me.

Arrangements entrusted to Boyd-Panciera Family Funeral Care, University Drive Chapel.
