Stephen Halpern, age 81, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 22, 2026. Steve was born March 26, 1945, in New York. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Judy.
Steve enlisted in and served his country in the United States Navy from 1963 to 1967. He graduated from the Underwater Swimmers School in Key West, Florida, and served as an Underwater Demolitions Expert during the Vietnam War. The Underwater Swimmers School trained less than 7,000 divers between 1954 and 1973 when it closed its doors, and Steve was proudly one of them.
After leaving the Navy in 1967, Steve made South Florida his home and worked for Eastern Airlines for 30 years. He then began a second career working for the City of Hollywood for 15 years.
Steve met his wife Judy in 1996 and they were married on St. Patrick’s Day 2003. Steve and Judy were proud members of and actively involved with the American Legion Post 92.
Steve is preceded in death by his wife Judy, parents Abraham and Edythe and sister Irene. He is survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Clifford and Carole, his stepdaughter Lyn and her husband Greg, stepson Rick and his wife Amy, granddaughters, Angela and AnnMarie and her husband Justin, and great grandchildren, Cameron, Gavin, Avery, Eva, Hailey and Nolan.
A military funeral with full honors will take place on Wednesday, May 6th at 1:00 pm at South Florida National Cemetery, 6501 South State Road 7, Lake Worth, FL 33449.
