July 31, 1964~April 02, 2026

Troy G. Nichols was born in Price, Utah on July 31, 1964 and left this world on April 2, 2026 following an accidental injury. He was preceded in death by his parents, Boni Adams and Gary Nichols; his beloved cousin, Toni Rife; and the love of his life, Jack Winkler.

Troy lost his father when he was young, and the bond that formed between him and his mother, Boni, was extraordinary. They leaned on each other, grew together, and in a moment that speaks volumes about who they both were, crossed the stage at the University of Utah at the same time — Troy earning a BS in Industrial Engineering and Mathematics with an emphasis on Production Management. He worked as an industrial engineer at Utah Medical Products and Kendall Med-West, rising quickly to Manufacturing Engineer for the plant’s largest production area.

In 1990, he met Jack Winkler, and everything shifted. Troy moved to Baltimore to be with him, and the life they built together — over 23 years — was marked by a depth of love and harmony that many couples spend a lifetime chasing. In 2006, they relocated to Wilton Manors, finding in that community a sense of belonging and joy they cherished. Happy Hour at Tropics became a favorite ritual, and their parties — in both Baltimore and Wilton Manors— were legendary. Troy would retell with great delight how Jack would spontaneously invite twenty friends, fully confident that Troy would make his way to the grocery store and produce a feast. He always did.

Troy inherited his mother’s creativity: he was a wonderful cook and a devoted gardener. He enjoyed the time that he worked at Bonnet House Museum and Gardens supporting events, giving tours, and ultimately becoming the grounds manager.  He volunteered at Holy Cross Hospital.  He was engaging and his quick wit made people smile.

When Jack passed in 2013, the loss was profound. As we say our goodbyes, we are comforted by the thought of them reunited, exactly as they were always meant to be.

Clearly Troy and Jack were one of the most profoundly in love couples that I have ever met and fortunately known I truly hope that they are together again!

Troy was a friend of mine from Baltimore in the early 80s, and when I moved to Fort Lauderdale, he helped me transfer my Ira from Baltimore to fort. Lauderdale, in 2010. Terry o’neill and I were close with them.
