Varughese Oommen, age 74, nicknamed Laly. Passed away July 31st, 2026 in Hollywood, Florida. Laly was born to Aleyamma Varghese Kapplasseril (Changannur) and M.O. Varghese Varathrapallalhu, Modisseril (Niranam). Laly was born and raised in Modisseril, with his 3 sisters Saly, Sheela, & Sunil and 2 younger brothers Willy & Kunju. He was the 2nd child out of 6 children. Laly started his primary education at St.Mary’s school, Pottom, Trivandrum. Went to High School at SRV High School Ernakulam, Kochi. He did his Pre-University in Mar Thoma College Tiruvalla. He earned his Degree in Mechanical Engineering at Polytechnic College, Nattakom, Kerala. Kottayum. At the age of 30 he married Susy Oommen from Mavelikkara, India and after marriage he immigrated to the States with his wife and 2 kids Lincy & Libin Oommen.

Laly worked as a bus mechanic at MTA for New York Transportation. Once retired he moved to Florida to enjoy the sunshine and warm weather. Beloved father, protective husband, & proud member of St.Mary’s Jacobite Syriac Orthodox Church. Laly was immensely loved and cared for by all members of the church and will always be remembered for his courage and friendly nature. A man of multiple skills with an infectious smile that can charm a whole crowd. Laly has truly left a mark among his community and will always be loved and missed by his wife and daughter.
