Violet Mae Smith was born on June 8, 1942 in Clarendon, Jamaica. While in Jamaica, she lived with her mother the late Rebecca Smith. Between the 1960 and 1965 she had 4 children. Before leaving for Freeport, Bahamas. She left her children in the care of her mother who raised them to the people they are today. While in Freeport she stayed for a couple of years until she decided to go the United States to better her career. In the mid-1970’s she attended a Technical School to get her nursing degree. By the late 1970’s she had her last child who she raised. She worked as a RN and a Private Nurse for over 20 years. After Retiring, she began to have more of a social life with her friends while raising her son. She also had the privilege to help raise 8 more children, whom he called her own, through the years.
On May 11, 2019 our Father called her home to be with the Lord.
Violet is survived by her 5 loving children; Wayne Beckford, Lorna Sutherland, Keith Sutherland, Angie Primrose, Jeremiah Griffin Jr., 1 brother; Lebert Smith, 4 sisters; Mable Gibson, Mary McCoy, Leola Clark, Virginia Harris, 9 adopted children; John Arnold, Keinen Philips, Renwick Brenson, Kayene Herbert, Jerrome Clarke, Wendy Peacock, Letricia Mcleod Miller, Marvin Mchellion and the late Barry Singh; 20 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild, and a host of nieces, nephews, families and friends.
Visitation will take place on Friday, May 31st, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. with a Tribute of a Lifetime Service at 7:00 p.m. at Boyd-Panciera Family Funeral Care, University Drive Chapel. Funeral Service will be on Saturday, June 1st, 10:00 a.m. at Sierra Norwood Calvary Baptist Church. Interment will follow at Vista Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
