ALLHEIM, William R., born August 15, 1931, at Ellis Hospital, Schenectady, New York, to William L. Allheim and Dorothy E. Roberts Allheim, passed way September 17, 2017.
Married to Helen J. Stokes in 1953, whom predeceased him June 1, 2003, after 49 years of marriage.
A proud US Army veteran of the Korean war and well accomplished individual. During his 86 years of life, William managed to do it all. Obtained a Bachelor’s Degree from the Wake Forest University in 1953, Master’s Degree from Appalachian State University in 1958, and his Ph.D. Degree from Florida State University in 1973. He was the Chairman of the Dept. of Physical Education, assistant and head basketball coach, chairman of the Dept. of Exercise Science and Sports Medicine, served at Hollywood Medical Center as an Exercise Physiologist in the Dept. of Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation.
He received many honors and awards including the proclamation from the Congress of the United States, a proclamation from the Florida Senate, outstanding faculty award by Miami-Dade Community College certificate of outstanding achievement from the Florida Governor’s Council, certificate of appreciation from Miami-Dade College and was also awarded an Endowed Teaching Chair from Miami-Dade Community College. William also published two books in the field of Physical Education and wrote articles about health, fitness, nutrition and related areas of wellness.
Pre-deceased by brothers, Norman Allheim, Howard Allheim and sister, Jean Morocco. Survived by two sons William R. Allheim, Jr and Kenneth Allheim; brother, Robert Allheim; grandchildren, Michelle Di Virgilio, Nicole De Souza; great-grandchild, Isaiah Rodriguez; several nieces and phews, grand nieces and nephews, and one beautiful and perfect niece Peggy Allheim Hamilton.
Graveside service was held on Saturday, September 23, 2017, 11:00 AM, at Evergreen Cemetery, 1300 SE 10th Avenue, Ft. Lauderdale, FL. Arrangements entrusted to Boyd-Panciera Family Funeral Care, University Drive Chapel.
