Yvonne Cyline Griner was born out of the union between Barbara Marshall and Sydney Ashley in Kingston, Jamaica. She was the first of 11 children. She was reared by her Grandaunt Monica DeWar, who was affectionately called “Dear Aunt”.

Yvonne, whose childhood nickname was Plumie, always had a fun, loving spirit and enjoyed her childhood even though she and her siblings were reared in a modest home with her extended family the Browns. She married her childhood love Neville Black and had two sons Maurice Anthony and Michael Wayne. In 1971, she migrated to the United States to attend Delaware Community College in Wilmington, DE and reunited with her father. In 1972, she married her second husband, Neville Hines and between that union, her daughter Michelle Annmarie was later born. In 1981, she relocated to South Florida where she continued her work in the health care profession working at the Veterans Administration, the Memorial Healthcare System and South Florida State Hospital . In 1993, she married Ronald Griner where they spent their free time taking road trips, fishing, cruising, attending the horse races and spending quality time with the grandchildren. Yvonne’s wonderful appreciation for life is echoed in her motto of “Living, Loving & Laughing ” often noted by her heart warming smile.

Her personal pastime involved playing the slots and talking daily with her “sisters”. Lastly, anyone who had the privilege of spending time with Yvonne knew that her dancing skills were exceptional where she won several dance contests in her youth. Yvonne never missed an opportunity to express herself through dancing to the rhythm of life.

She is survived by her life partner Ronald Griner; siblings Delroy Smith Jamaica; Angela Smith New Jersey; Monica Smith New York; Kenneth Smith Delaware; Allan Smith Jamaica; Syble Smith Simpson Florida and Peter Smith Delaware.

She is also survived by her children Michael Wayne and Michelle Annmarie Florida, as well as step children Carol & Colin Hines Maryland; Richard & Leroy Hines North Carolina & Ebony Griner Floridaand her closet cousins Derrick; Rosalee; Carol; Pauline and Marjorie and her beloved Aunt Veronica Marshall and a host of devoted nieces and nephews.

Yvonne’s strength, tenacity, strong will and grace most certainly will live on in the legacy of her grandchildren Anthony, Christina, Madison, Caden and Marlee.

As her family continues to grieve her untimely death, we find resolve knowing that she gave her life to Jesus Christ and is safely resting in the arms of the Lord.

She is joining her late parents Sydney & Barbara ; her first born child Maurice; her dear Aunt Pauline Brown, her Sister Leilith and her two brothers Wesley and Anthony in eternal rest.

As her family continues to grieve her untimely death, we find resolve knowing that she gave her life to Jesus Christ and is safely resting in the arms of the Lord.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday, June 27th, from 6-8 p.m. A celebration of her life will take place on Saturday, June 28th, 10:00 a.m. again at the funeral home. Repast will follow at the Broward County PBA Convention Hall, 2901 SW 26th Terrace, Dania Beach, FL 33312.
