Yvonne Phyllis Barbara Edwards, age 90, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 13, 2026 at St. Francis Hospital in Shakopee, Minnesota. Yvonne was born on October 26, 1935 to Edward Leopold Forbes and Myrtle May Forbes in Harry Watch, Manchester, Jamaica. She was the fourth child out of eight children.
Her early career had her chasing her dreams (and her sister Vilma) throughout North America taking opportunities to better her self and her children, working as a personal assistant, switchboard operator, and a Director of a group home for children with special needs. She held other roles throughout her professional career. Yvonne retired as a Director at Rockaway Home Attendant Services for the elderly. In 1973, she move to Far Rockaway, NY where she met, fell in love and married Louis Edwards in March, 1978, blending their families to create 9 beautiful children. In 2000, she moved to Pembroke Pines, FL and surrounded herself with family and friends.
Yvonne was usually the center of her social gatherings and loved to converse and entertain. Everyone with which she socialized became family. Her house was always ready for company, her stove and refrigerator were well stocked to ensure no one left hungry. Her phone was always ringing and much of her later years were spent with all of those she was checking in on or who were checking in on her.
She believed every outing was worthy of the Oscars. Meticulously planning her outfit, purse, accessories and hair days before. She attended and graduated beauty school and we are convinced it was to ensure she would have salon perfect hair.
She loved music especially gospel and hymns. You would often find her playing and singing hymns by ear on her piano. Her faith was foremost in her life and to all that she did, attending church and bible study, practicing daily prayer, and seeking God’s guidance. She displayed thankfulness throughout all of life’s trials, tribulations, and successes.
Yvonne is preceded in death by her husband of 45 years Louis Edwards, parents Edward and Myrtle Forbes, sisters Joyce Forbes, June Philp, Vilma Mahabir, brother Dutton Forbes, and son Phillip Edwards.
Yvonne is survived by her children Garth A. (Connie) Deidrick, Brett A. (Judy) Young, Ramon G. (Denise) Edwards, Andre O. (Leah) Edwards, Louis C. (Denise) Edwards, Toya J. (Garry) Wright, Lois M. Rhodes, Michael E. Lawson, her siblings Sylvia Brown, Madge Sanford, Ted Forbes and 19 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, a host of loving in-laws, other relatives, and countless friends.
A celebration of life is planned for August 15th at Grace Baptist Church, 19200 Griffin Road, Southwest Ranches, FL 33332. The memorial visitation is from 9:30-11 am and the service starts at 11 am. The service will be followed by a social gathering and luncheon. A private family inurnment will occur at a later date.
The family requests wearing green to celebrate Yvonne’s favorite color.

The Family of Yvonne Edwards (Grandma),
You are in our thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
This time last year was incredibly difficult for our family, and she helped us through it with such love, kindness, and generosity. We will forever be grateful that she was there for us.
We will deeply miss her joyful spirit and the love she showed to Kathy, Adam, and our entire family. Her presence touched our lives in ways we will carry with us forever.
We are so thankful for the time we were blessed to have her in our lives. Though we miss her dearly, we find comfort knowing she is now in Heaven, resting peacefully with our Savior.
Her memory and the love she shared will remain in our hearts always.
With love,
Lesa, Adam & Kathy 🤍
